General Purpose: 

To provide support to Play Inclusion Project’s service users in line with the charity’s aim to provide high quality support in leisure activities, tailored to suit each individual’s support needs and to promote independence and choice.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • To provide supervision, assistance and support to children and young people with a wide range of disabilities and support needs as detailed in their care plan.

  • To ensure you have read the care plan of the child you are supporting each day.

  • To assist the Activity Coordinator in providing a caring and secure environment through individual 1:1 support in group activities.

  • To organise and supervise an appropriate range of arts, crafts and leisure activities for service users dependent on age range and abilities.

  • Ensuring planned activities are set up and available to the children and young people.

  • To provide assistance to the Activity Coordinator with personal care, toileting and feeding where necessary.

  • To actively promote the independence of each service user.

  • To actively encourage children and young people to take part in organised activities, arts and crafts and free play with others.

  • To take part in activities alongside children and young people.

  • To ensure activities are carried out within an equal opportunity framework. 

  • To assist the Activity Coordinator in managing behaviours adhering to strategies and procedures detailed in individual care plans, Play Inclusion Project’s policies and procedures and in line with legislation.

  • To promote effective communication and relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and service users, to be aware of communication difficulties and adopt an approach which minimises the impact of such difficulties.

  • To provide feedback to parents at the end of the day regarding what their child has been doing, enjoyed, eaten etc or any other relevant information.

  • To consult with children and involve them in the planning of activities and trips available to them.

  • To adhere to Play Inclusion Project’s Policies and Procedures (Activity Coordinators have the Policy file at all times).

  • To ensure confidentiality is maintained in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and in line with GDPR – ensuring that personal details are not disclosed to any unauthorised person.

  • To ensure a high-standards of dress, hygiene and cleanliness

  • To ensure that the child/young person you are supporting is collected by the correct person.

  • Ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from different cultures, religion and backgrounds.

  • To be responsible for Health & Safety Standards appropriate for the needs of children.

  • To assist with the preparation and maintenance of materials and equipment.

  • To assist in the recording of accidents, incidents, administration of medication and intimate care where necessary.

  • To be aware of the high profile of the Activity Club/Group and to uphold their standards at all times.

  • To agree to abide by the ‘Staff Code of Conduct’ at all times.

 

This is not an exhaustive list, the job holder may be required to undertake such other duties as the Activity Coordinator or Charity Manager may from time to time reasonably require.
